FAQ
Jaw pain, plainly answered.
Patients most often ask the same five questions.
-
I already have a nightguard. Why isn't it working?
Generic nightguards protect teeth but rarely address what's driving the clenching or grinding. Most have wrong thickness, coverage, or material for the cause. -
Will I need surgery?
Almost never. Most TMJ pain responds to a combination of bite therapy, muscle therapy, and (in some cases) airway treatment. Surgery is reserved for true structural joint disease. -
Does insurance cover TMJ care?
Sometimes, partially. TMJ sits between dental and medical insurance. We'll verify coverage and explain what is and isn't covered before treatment. -
How long until I feel better?
Most patients feel meaningful relief within 4 to 8 weeks of starting a properly-designed appliance. Full resolution often takes 3 to 6 months. -
Should I see a doctor first?
Not necessarily. If symptoms are clearly joint or muscle related, we can start. We coordinate with physicians, neurologists, or PTs when it's the right call.
