TMJ AND FACIAL PAIN
Jaw pain, headaches, and clenching deserve a deeper look.
TMJ and facial pain care that evaluates the joint, muscles, bite, airway, posture, and history before recommending treatment.
WHAT WE TREAT
TMJ care beyond a one-size nightguard.
Many patients arrive after trying a generic guard or being told to live with the pain. We begin with evaluation, not assumptions, then build a plan around what is actually contributing to the symptoms.

WHAT TO EXPECT
A real TMJ evaluation looks wider than the symptom.
Jaw pain can come from the joint, muscles, bite imbalance, clenching, airway patterns, or a combination. The first step is mapping what is actually happening.
-
STEP 01
Full evaluation.
We assess joint, muscle, bite, and airway in one visit. Not a 10-minute look.
-
STEP 02
A plan you understand.
Plainly stated treatment options, with what each does and doesn't address.
-
STEP 03
Follow-through.
Most TMJ care needs adjustment over weeks. We schedule the follow-up. And stick to it.
FAQ
TMJ and jaw pain, plainly answered.
The questions people ask most before their first TMJ evaluation.
-
What causes TMJ pain?
Jaw pain can come from the joint, the muscles, a bite imbalance, clenching, airway patterns during sleep, or a combination. That is why we map what is actually happening before recommending treatment. -
I already have a nightguard. Why isnβt it working?
Generic nightguards protect teeth but rarely address what is driving the clenching or grinding. Many have the wrong thickness, coverage, or material for the cause. Bring yours to the evaluation, since the wear pattern shows what your bite is doing at night. -
How are headaches related to my jaw?
The trigeminal nerve serves both your jaw muscles and your head. Clenching, grinding, or airway problems during sleep can trigger headaches through the same pathway. More on headache evaluation. -
What happens at the evaluation?
A 60-minute bite and muscle evaluation: joint range and sound, muscle palpation, bite analysis, airway assessment, and posture. It is currently $295, including imaging and a written findings document. See the full evaluation. -
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly. If a physician, neurologist, or physical therapist sent you, we will coordinate with them. -
Will I need surgery?
Almost never. Most TMJ pain responds to a combination of bite therapy, muscle therapy, and in some cases airway treatment. Surgery is reserved for true structural joint disease. -
How long until I feel better?
Most patients feel meaningful relief within 4 to 8 weeks of starting a properly designed appliance. Full resolution often takes 3 to 6 months. -
Who will I see?
TMJ and facial pain care is led by Dr. Mike Bennett, who is board certified by the American Board of Craniofacial Pain and the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine. -
Does insurance cover TMJ care?
Sometimes, partially. TMJ care sits between dental and medical insurance, and therapeutic Botox for documented bruxism can be billed to medical insurance. We verify coverage and explain it before treatment. How insurance and payment work.
NOT SURE WHERE TO START?
Six clear paths in. Pick the one that fits.
TMJ care doesn't stand alone. If sleep, aesthetics, or general dentistry is what actually brought you in, pick that lane and we'll route you.

“Ah-mazing place! I've seen other dentists and none of them have been as good as here. In fact the dentist here fixed mistakes previous dentist have made. They were very careful to get any fillings ground down until I had a really free and non-painful bite. My mouth/jaw feels so good now. ...”

“Dr. Mike Bennett is a really solid guy. Heβs active in research so heβs at the cutting edge and he can elucidate different philosophies in the field when you have questions which is cool and reassuring. Iβve been going there 4 years and I got the Candid teeth alignment service they use and itβs gone well.”
